The mayor of a Weber County city made the announcement at a Christmas-themed event.
Utah could be getting another Trader Joe's grocery store in 2025.
At an event Monday, Riverdale Mayor Braden Mitchell announced that the grocery chain will be opening a store in that Weber County city next summer.
"It's a good gift -- we're excited about that," Mitchell said, after removing Christmas wrapping from a large sign that read "Trader Joe's: Coming in 2025." The wrapped sign was delivered to the mayor by someone dressed as Santa Claus.
A spokesperson for Trader Joe's did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday. The grocery chain historically does not confirm or deny rumors of new store locations, and only announces store openings on the company's website just before they happen.
Mitchell said the Riverdale store would open next to the Ashley Furniture store at 4060 Riverdale Road, in a space that once held a Shopko.
The Riverdale location would be the sixth Trader Joe's store in Utah. The fifth one, at 2160 S. 700 East in Salt Lake City's Sugar House neighborhood, opened Oct. 11 in a former auto parts store. The chain also has stores on 400 South in Salt Lake City, as well as in Cottonwood Heights, Draper and Orem.
Mitchell's announcement was livestreamed on the Riverdale City's Facebook account.
