Former Yankees prospect Estevan Florial is signing with the Hanwha Eagles in Korea, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Florial was once looked at as a future star outfielder, but never lived up to expectations at the Major League level. Now, he'll look to revamp his career overseas.
Florial spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Guardians and appeared in 36 games, hitting .173/.264/.367 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 111 plate appearances.
The Yankees drafted Florial in 2015, and he was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the organization by MLB Pipeline in 2019. He was touted for his speed, arm strength and power, but struggled with a high strikeout rate and low contact numbers.
Florial also struggled with injuries and lost the 2020 season due to the pandemic.
Florial made the Yankees' Opening Day roster in 2023, but was designated for assignment the second game of the year. The Yankees sent him to Cleveland that December in exchange for right-hander Cody Morris.
