Massachusetts residents, crews gears up for wintery weekend weather

Salt piles are at the ready, shovels are in hand, and Massachusetts residents are ready for wintery weather to come on Sunday.

Massive salt piles were covered this Saturday night in Chelsea, but are expected to be scattered across greater Boston roads.

Heavy snowfall in some areas of Massachusetts and freezing temps to follow are expected as soon as Sunday afternoon.

Customers raced to Curry Ace Paint & Hardware for last-minute supplies.

"I'm not going to do the rush tomorrow," said one customer.

Another added, "If you're not ready for 3 or 4 inches of snow, you might as well pack it in."

The snow is a welcomed site for the hardware store, which has been waiting for the conditions all winter now.

"We get excited," said associate Mike Russel. "We know we're going to see a lot of faces coming through the door."

He continued, "There's definitely some urgency loading up bags of ice melt and bales to put it in."

Russel said the biggest seller this week ahead of the snow has been ice melt. He claimed earlier snowfall followed by freezing temperatures made conditions dangerous for his customers.

"It froze over and a lot of people found they were slipping and sliding," said Russel.

The store told Boston 25 they're expecting a large influx of customers before the snowfall is expected to arrive Sunday afternoon.
