SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) -- Salt Lake City firefighters battled a 2-alarm blaze at 45 East 900 South in SLC's Ballpark neighborhood Monday night.
Captain Brandt Hancuff, public information officer for the Salt Lake City Fire Department, told Gephardt Daily that crews were first dispatched just before 7:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls of smoke in the area.
When firefighters arrived, they found a commercial building with heavy flames coming from the back of the structure.
Hancuff said the good news was there was no one inside the building, which is sometimes used as a "shop."
According to Hancuff, crews made a quick attack on the fire and were able to keep flames from spreading to a larger portion of the building used for storage by a nearby auto dealership. He said while smoke spread throughout the structure, it did not appear any of the cars inside were damaged.
The blaze took about 45 minutes to douse, thanks to the work of approximately 45 firefighters, Hancuff said.
There were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Monday's blaze was the second large structure fire in the Ballpark neighborhood in the last 96 hours. Last Thursday, a vacant building and the former home to Mrs. Field's Cookies was destroyed in a 4-alarm blaze.
The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
