PASADENA, CA -- A big-time matchup at the Grandaddy of Them All will determine who moves on to the College Football Playoff Semifinals, as Ohio State and Oregon face off in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
#8 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. #1 Oregon Ducks
The Buckeyes and Ducks are no strangers to Pasadena on New Year's Day. This will be the 17th time Ohio State has played in the Rose Bowl, with the Buckeyes having a 9-7 record in the event, last winning a wild contest against Utah in 2022. The Ducks are 4-4 in the game, beating Wisconsin in their last appearance in 2020.
OSU and Oregon have met twice already in Pasadena, as the Buckeyes beat the Ducks in the 1958 and 2010 Rose Bowls. Ohio State also beat Oregon to win the 2014 national championship.
This is also a rematch from an exciting battle fans saw in the regular season. The teams came into Eugene in October as the top two programs in the country. In an exciting back-and-forth contest, the Ducks prevailed, 32-31.
The win was a huge part of Oregon's regular season. The Ducks came into the Big Ten and ran the show, for the most part. They took care of business against lesser teams and rose to the occasion when they faced tough competition.
Ohio State had to work a little harder to get to the quarterfinals. They were relegated to an at-large bid into the playoffs after losing to Michigan in their annual game in November, knocking them out of Big Ten Championship contention.
