In late October, as part of ordinary bloodwork, my PSA test was 4.38. It's outside the line for being high, but not something to rush into surgery for. The repeat blood exam from late December shows a reading of 8.41, double the high limit.
Since getting this last score, I've done some research and discovered things that one shouldn't do before taking this sort of test. My medical provider didn't tell me about these things, and I may have done one of them; my days are of a sameness and I really don't remember. Also, I passed some small (objectively) stones a few days before testing. What I've read suggests that's not important to a PSA test, but I'm including it anyway.
My medical provider is recommending I see a urologist. I'm thinking I should wait and do another test, maybe at the end of this month, to see if that high score holds up. I know the PSA test doesn't mean a cancer diagnosis, and since I don't have insurance, my preference is that it not be cancer. My question: Am I taking this seriously enough?
