The No. 1 Penn State wrestling program may land yet another No. 1 recruit to fuel its dynasty.
The three-time defending national champion Nittany Lions are in the final running for an early commitment from Bishop McCort High junior Bo Bassett, widely considered the nation's top recruit in the 2026 class.
Bassett stars at 144 pounds for arguably the top high school wrestling team in the nation in Johnstown, Pa. He's been pursued by more than 80 college programs and will reportedly be making his choice Tuesday night from among four finalists: Penn State, Iowa, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.
Bassett is teammates with Jax Forrest, the nation's No. 2 recruit at 132 pounds, according to FloWrestling - and another top Penn State target. A third Top 20-ranked McCort junior, Sam Herring, has already committed to Penn State.
Penn State and coach Cael Sanderson also has locked down the top two recruits in the 2025 class in No. 1 senior Marcus Blaze, a 132-pounder from Perrysburg, Ohio and No. 2 PJ Duke from Minisink, New York at 157 pounds.
How about that Tyler Kasak? What No. 1 Penn State wrestling proved by blasting Iowa
Bassett won a gold medal at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in 2021 and a bronze at the U20 event last year. He is 35-0 this season and is undefeated at 109-0 in his high school career.
Bassett is making his choice after attending Penn State's demolition of Rutgers less than two weeks ago and a few days after the Lions beat down No. 2 Iowa in the Bryce Jordan Center for their 66th straight dual meet victory.
Bassett posted this on social media on Sunday: "After an amazing Recruiting Process, lots of great conversations, miles, weekends, texts & prayers, I have my mind made up & this week I will be making my commitment live on Flo Wrestling. When I Narrowed it down to the final 7, I feel I couldn't make a bad choice."
On Monday, he cut his list to four schools.
Meanwhile, Bassett did receive a social media plea to join the Nittany Lions from former Penn State football All-American and NFL All-Pro Micah Parsons - a noted wrestling fan.
"After seeing Penn state domination it can't be any other choice!!!We have the best environment and wrestling room in the country! That's facts! Come join the greatest legacy ever created!!" Parsons wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
