Former Broncos linebacker John Huard dies at 80

John Huard, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and a Broncos linebacker from 1967-69, has died. He was 80.

Huard, a native of Waterville, Maine, died last Wednesday at his home in South Portland, Maine. The Broncos expressed their condolences Monday.

Huard started 41 of the 42 games he played for Denver, having six interceptions. He missed all of 1970 due to a knee injury with the Broncos and last played in the regular season in the NFL with one game for the New Orleans Saints in 1971.

Huard had starred at Maine and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014. After his playing career, he was a longtime coach, mostly in college. He was head coach of Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada, from 1979-83 and of the Maine Maritime Academy from 1987-93. He also was head coach of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League for part of the 2000 season, going 1-6-1.
