PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - The city of Pensacola has canceled its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20, due to forecasts of extreme cold weather.
City leaders announced Friday that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of attendees, participants and city employees staffing the event.
Forecasts are calling for temperatures during parade set-up and the event itself to be in the 20s, with wind chills dropping into the low teens and wind gusts near 30 mph, according to the city.
Officials said they will work with parade organizers to explore the possibility of rescheduling the parade.
