Middletown Supervisor Anna Payne, a longtime community activist before she was an elected official in Bucks County, has died.
"We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Anna Payne. Anna was a supervisor on the township board as well as a member of the Middletown Community Foundation. She cared deeply for her community and took an active role to support those in need," said an announcement shared on the Middletown Police Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.
"Anna lived with cystic fibrosis most of her life and battled stage four colon cancer the last four years. She fought valiantly to live life on her own terms and continued to make every moment she was given matter," it read.
Payne grew up in Levittown and was a Neshaminy High School graduate.
In 2021, she shared that she had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer and was undergoing treatment, including immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
She was born with cystic fibrosis, a congenital disease that severely damages lungs, the digestive system and other vital organs, and doctors warned she may not make it past 17, she shared in a 2021 story with the Courier Times.
"Supervisor Payne courageously battled cystic fibrosis most of her life and stage four colon cancer for the past four years, demonstrating an incredible spirit, resilience, and positive attitude," the township posted in a statement online.
"Her passion for Middletown Township and her advocacy for the community will not be forgotten. Her kindness, dedication and spirit will forever be an inspiration to us all."
Please keep her family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts during this difficult time
