HAMMOND -- A Gary man who pleaded guilty to injuring a United States Postal Service mail carrier during a 2021 shooting was sentenced on Wednesday in Hammond Federal Court to 153 months in prison -- nearly 13 years -- followed by three years of supervised release.
Jerron Williams, 34, had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting and inflicting bodily injury on the USPS worker, whose name remains sealed in accordance with the Crime Victims' Rights Act.
According to court documents, a mail carrier stopped her truck outside Williams' home in the 4200 block of Tennessee Street at approximately 7 p.m. on April 2, 2021.

Brian Lambka, a U.S. postal inspector, alleged that the driver was sorting mail for deliveries on Williams' street when Williams backed out of his driveway and hit the mail truck.
Lambka said an angered Williams began to yell at the mail carrier, who tried to defuse the situation until Williams went into his house for what she feared was a gun.
While trying to drive away, the mail carrier hit Williams' car, according to court documents. Williams then emerged from his house with a 9 mm handgun and fired four shots at the truck, one shot shattering the passenger-side window causing facial and neck injuries to the USPS driver.
Lambka said a witness saw Williams shoot at the mail truck and heard the mail carrier scream.
Williams fled the scene, but police traced his car to a motel in Hobart where he was arrested.
U.S. District Court Senior Judge Jon DeGuilio handed down Williams' sentence.
