Jake Ferguson injury update: Latest on Cowboys' TE status for Week 12 game vs. Commanders

The Dallas Cowboys are infested with the injury bug. No exterminator will go anywhere near this roster, for fear that they will also fall victim to its wrath. A roster that once dreamt of appearing in a Super Bowl is now one that will be stuck watching it on the couch like the rest of us.

If you were wondering if there were any players left to get, the injury bug decided to feast on Jake Ferguson, forcing him to potentially miss time.

A concussion kept Ferguson from participating in the final three quarters of Monday's loss to the Texans and now appears primed to sideline him for Week 12 as well.

Here is the latest on the Dallas tight end heading into the weekend:

After being forced to exit Monday night's loss to the Texans with a concussion, Ferguson was, unsurprisingly, listed as a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday at Cowboys' practice.

It was unlikely at best that the tight end would be able to clear concussion protocol in time, but the five-step process means he is likely guaranteed to miss at least one game. The turnaround is just too quick for Ferguson to be cleared by doctors and log enough practice time to suit up on Sunday.

Luke Schoonmaker figures to get the start at tight end against the Commanders, with Brevyn Spann-Ford backing him up. Dallas' team is already battered and bruised heading into Week 12 in a lost season, so don't expect the Cowboys to rush anyone back.

Ferguson suffered a concussion in the first quarter against the Texans on "Monday Night Football" in Week 11. The tight end managed to tally one catch for 11 yards before being forced out of action.

Ferguson broke out in 2023 and played a key role in the Cowboys' success on offense. While he is posting similar numbers this year, the tight end is feeling the effects of a team that's fallen off in 2024. Ferguson found the end zone five times in 2023, but hasn't done it yet this season. The 25-year-old has totaled 43 receptions and 369 yards in his third season.
