The chief editor of Scientific American, the oldest continually published magazine in the U.S., is stepping down after comments she made about Trump supporters went viral. Laura Helmuth announced her resignation Friday in a post on Bluesky.
Helmuth, who had served in the role for four-and-a-half years, posted on Election night that some of President-elect Trump's supporters were "the meanest, dumbest, most bigoted" individuals. Helmuth later apologized, calling her comments a "mistaken expression of shock and confusion about the election results."
The magazine had endorsed, Vice President Kamala Harris, only the second endorsement in the magazine's 180-year history.
