Franklin Health offers free heart health screenings

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - As heart health month continues, Franklin Primary Health went red on Thursday offering free health screenings.

"Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in women globally, along with there being a disparity in the African American community. So, it's very important for us to get out awareness and to promote education to help people take charge of their health," Dr. Tamekia Cunningham-Abrams said.

With February being heart health month, all of these screenings happening here definitely help. Dental assessments were also provided, as dental health can be an indicator of your heart health.

"There are a lot of modifiable behavioral risk factors that people aren't aware of that they can take advantage of that can actually decrease their risk of getting cardiovascular disease. Such as lowering the blood pressure, which is what the screenings are about today, checking the cholesterol, and checking the blood sugar. We're doing all of that today," Dr. Cunningham-Abrams said.

All to keep you and your family informed.

"It's important because it impacts us in so many ways. Whether it's personally, spiritually, or emotionally. Someone has been impacted by cardiovascular disease in their life," Dr. Cunningham-Abrams said.
