(CNN)-The Chinese animated blockbuster Ne Zha Two has reached the top of the global box office, surpassing Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. According to a Chinese ticketing platform, the film has raked in $1.69 billion -- almost entirely from theaters in China. The success of the sequel marks another milestone for the country's animation industry.

The inspirational drama The Unbreakable Boy is set to make its long-awaited debut. Based on a true story, the film was originally shot in late 2020, and after years of anticipation, it will arrive in theaters this Friday. "For and a half years later, we still have a text thread with half of our cast and crew," a cast member shared. "There's a real special family connection and bond on this project that I'm so excited to share."

Award-winning actress and musician Janelle Monáe is stepping into a new role. She is set to star in the film adaptation of Tanya Smith's memoir Never Saw Me Coming, a true story about a teenage hacker who masterminded multi-million-dollar heists. The film follows Smith outsmarting federal agents who thought a black woman couldn't be clever enough to pull off such crimes.
