Trump targets sanctuary policies, vows crackdown on illegal immigration funding

WASHINGTON (TNND) -- Along the southern border, U.S. Marines have been assisting with new wall construction as a major overhaul in the country carries on remaking the U.S. immigration system.

During a speech Wednesday at the Future Investment Initiative Institute Priority Summit, President Donald Trump said, "Our first and most urgent mission is to remove the criminals that Biden allowed into our country with the ridiculous and very dangerous open borders policy. They came from all over the world; they came from prisons and jails they came from mental institutions and insane asylums."

While most who come to the country do so to find work or flee violence and corruption, a brand-new Executive Order aimed at all undocumented migrants, directing Federal departments and agencies to identify all federally funded programs currently providing financial benefits to illegal aliens and take corrective action.

It also ensures that Federal funds to states and localities will not be used to support "sanctuary" policies or assist illegal immigration.

One likely target is the more than 900,000 people who used the CBP One app to come into the country under former President Biden's parole program, granted temporary protected status from countries like Ukraine, Cuba, Haiti Nicaragua, and Venezuela

Allen Orr, Past President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association is among those warning of the long-term impact.

"When you cut people off from legal access to get food and bare necessities, then they turn to an underground which could lead to more crime or more unhealthy children or disease within our different communities only harming Americans who are here," he said. "The concept behind public assistance is not about those individuals alone. It's about the standard of living in the United States where everybody sort of rises together," Orr added.

Another major change from the Trump White House has been designating the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization, along with MS-13 as well as several Mexican cartels, including the Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels, which could lead to financial sanctions against the groups and those who are linked to them.

In an interview with Sinclair, White House Border Czar Tom Homan shared his support for the plan.

"They kill more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world combined. They've killed thousands of journalists, politicians, and judges. They're acting like terrorists. They are terrorists

Mexico's president Claudia Sheinbaum responded Thursday, warning the United States against using the Foreign Terrorist organization designation to violate Mexico's sovereignty, saying "With Mexico, it is collaboration and coordination, never subordination or interventionism, and even less invasion."
