67% of Americans Want More Abortion Limits, Poll Shows - LifeNews.com

Majorities of Americans consistently support legal limits on abortion and approve of pregnancy resource centers, according to a Jan. 23 poll commissioned by the Knights of Columbus.

According to a news release, the poll, which surveyed 1,387 adults Jan. 7 to 9, found that 67% of Americans said legal limits should be placed on when abortions are allowed and 60% said those restrictions should at least limit abortion to the first three months of pregnancy. For the second year in a row, more than 8 in 10 Americans supported pregnancy resource centers as places of support for women before and after the births of their babies, despite smear campaigns in blue states against crisis pregnancy centers.

"The Knights of Columbus-Marist Poll once again shows that a majority of Americans support legal restrictions on abortion, and an overwhelming majority support pregnancy resource centers, which assist mothers and their children in greatest need," Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly stated in the release. "Being pro-life means being pro-woman and pro-child, and helping vulnerable women and their babies is in the Knights' DNA."

The Knights have been instrumental in providing pregnancy resource centers with the tools needed to adequately care for mothers and save the lives of unborn children. According to the release, Knights in the U.S. and Canada have raised nearly $14 million to support the centers, and have given nearly 2,000 ultrasound machines to centers across the country, allowing women to see their unborn babies.

The poll also asked respondents about their views on exemptions for healthcare professionals with religious objections to abortion, finding that 62% of Americans believed such individuals "should not be legally required to perform abortions."

Respondents additionally provided their thoughts on pro-life legislation, with 82% saying that laws can protect both the "health and well-being of a woman and the life of the unborn" at the same time. Just 15% said that laws must necessarily choose between protecting women or their unborn babies.
