Noteworthy: Samano claimed the 113-pound individual championship at the prestigious Battle for the Belt Invitational hosted by Temecula Valley High School. He was the No. 3 seed in the bracket but took down the top two seeded wrestlers en route to winning the title. Samano cruised through the opening rounds, winning three matches by technical fall and another via pinfall. He scored a 11-6 victory over No. 2-seeded Max Murillo of Esperanza in the semifinals. Samano faced top-seeded Jayden Wren of Clovis East in the championship round. Samano trailed 1-0 entering the final period, but he tied the score with a quick escape and then scored the winning takedown with 19 seconds left on the clock.
