Alien: Romulus Director Has A Great Idea To Bring Back Aliens Vs Predator - Keep It Secret

"I can't speak for [Prey director Dan Trachtenberg]. At some point, once there's another Alien, and I know he's working on a sequel to Prey, one day if we feel like, 'Yeah, that's what we cannot wait to see,' I think that's a movie we could do. The way I would do it, most likely, if it could be done this way ... It's harder to keep secrets online ... The best AVP will be the one that you don't know is AVP until the other guy shows up."

"You think you're watching a Predator movie, and then they land in some place and there are creatures, and f*cking hell, it's a Xenomorph. That would get me. 'F*** yeah!' You'd go crazy."

"Or vice versa, you're in an Alien movie, and then suddenly a mysterious creature is there, and you can hear that sound, and you see the cloak, and you go, 'Is that a f*cking Predator?' And then turns out it is," Álvarez continued. "That would be the way to do it, don't you think? Once you put it in the title, it's like, 'Spoiler alert.'"

Now, I get where Alvarez is coming from. How cool would it be to promote a new Alien movie and then when audiences show up it's actually an AVP movie? However, the question is whether that really is practical? I'm not so sure.

For a start, you have to convince Disney that it makes sense not to market the movie as a crossover. They would understandably be against this, because no executive in marketing fancies leaving the box office fate to word of mouth. Equally, given how much leaks we get these days, it would get out. At that point your then relying on leaks to sell the movie, rather than your own marketing.

Great idea, but I cannot see it working myself.

There really is only one great AVP product and it's the original Dark Horse comics. Set in the far future with three warring factions, Humans in combat suits being the third. That's what made the idea popular, alongside the video game. That's how I would handle it, take it far ahead. Like beyond Aliens: Resurrection. Could also be a vehicle to bring Ripley back as her clone is still alive at the end of that movie.

I guess we'll see what brews down the line?

What do you think of his comments as Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez has a great idea to bring back Aliens Vs Predator? Would it work to keep it a secret, or like me do you think it's doomed to failure? Thoughts below.
